About Me

Typography lover who likes order, movies, conceptual art and tacos—specially tacos.

My Background:

I went to school thinking I would be doing Art all my life. Yes, Art with capital A. You know, Warhol like. That didn’t turn out to be so true. For my undergrad I majored in Drawing and Graphic Design at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). UTEP is a small school, in a city that used to operate in incognito mode.

Then since I wanted to be an Artist, I ended up in Boston for a Masters in Fine Arts at the Massachusetts College of Art’s SIM (Studio for Interrelated Media) program. SIM is different than your ordinary art school program. They focus on the human experience of Art and let you do whatever you want in whatever medium you want as long as you have logic for it.

It was so liberating that my mediums of choice were: performance and code. Through my performance experiments, I learned to observe how people behaved. Through some of the objects I created, I discovered the beauty behind code.

My Focus:

In the last 5 years, I have had the amazing opportunity to work on Rejoiner, where I have learned all about product design, research and development by being the product owner in my team.

I’ve also learned plenty about how designers need to be able to talk to decision makers and engineers in order to truly design with everyones needs—where “everyone” includes a product’s users as well as sales and engineers.

Each time I design a new interface I go into the everyone’s mindset trying to answering the following questions:

  • “Will this feature or UX make a sale?” — A designer should always think of how a product will present on demos, marketing and sales calls.

  • “Will the user find this intuitive enough?” — A designer should always make sure that the user can achieve their goal with as little friction as possible.

  • “Is this feasible for engineering?” — A designer should always be aware of the technology that powers a product in order to allow the backend code to truly function.

My Self:

I take pride and ownership on everything I do or touch so a job done-well is always my goal.
